Competitiveness
Improving the competitiveness of farms is one of the subjects to be covered by the new Farming Advice Service. Free expert advice will be provided through events such as farm workshops, farm walks, drop in clinics, newsletters, text messages and a comprehensive helpline where you can speak to experts.
This website will provide:
- A single route to online and helpline advice on improving competitiveness, and
- Regularly updated dates, locations and other information on regional and national FAS events featuring Competitiveness.

Defra administers Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) funded grants for socio-economic and social projects, which aim to increase the competitiveness of farmers, improve the quality of rural life and diversify the rural economy.

The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) has a pivotal role to help make the six commodity sectors they support (pig meat, beef and lamb, commercial horticulture, milk, potatoes, cereals and oilseeds) more competitive and sustainable. AHDB undertakes research and development, farm-level knowledge transfer and knowledge exchange activity. AHDB also provides essential market information to improve supply chain transparency, deliver marketing promotion activities to help stimulate demand and also work to maintain and develop export markets.
