Noise Policy Statement for England

The Government’s policy on noise is set out in the Noise Policy Statement for England. It sets out the long term vision of promoting good health and a good quality of life through the management of noise.

The policy represents an important step forward, by helping to ensure that noise issues are considered at the right time during the development of policy and decision making, and not in isolation. It highlights the underlying principles on noise management already found in existing legislation and guidance. The policy was developed in consultation with key partners within and outside of government.

The government reiterated its commitment to deliver the Noise Policy Statement for England in the Natural Environment White Paper which was published in June 2011.

To further the approaches set out in Policy Statement, an Interdepartmental Group on Costs and Benefits noise subject group (IGCB(N))has been set up to develop, agree and disseminate good practice in the use of techniques to monetise the costs of noise.
