QUARRY:
a program to assess the effectiveness of shotgun ammunition
against wildfowl and other quarry

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

The philosophy, physics, physiology and numerical techniques underlying the Quarry program clouded my draft for this User Manual. It is only with thanks for the constructive criticism and vigorous editing by Dr John Harradine of the British Association for Shooting and Conservation and Dr Roger Giblin of the University College London that the manual, and thus the computer program, is of real utility. In particular I am indebted to John for giving a sense of purpose to the program's development-having faith that the Quarry program is a useful tool in building an understanding of shotgun performance and wildfowl welfare.

Amongst those who have helped bring relevance to the program are, notably, Dr Mike Swan and Charles Nodder of the Game Conservancy, and Carl Mitchel of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. Further, my colleague Dr Derek Allsop has been an invaluable point of reference throughout.

My thanks are also due to the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions for supporting the development of the program.
