Rights of Way (Hearings and Inquiries Procedure) Rules 2007 laid in Parliament on 17 July 2007

The Rules implement the Government's commitment to set out a framework for handling rights of way orders and will come into force on 1 October. The Statutory Instrument (SI 2008) is available from the OPSI website.

The Rules affect users, landowners and local authorities  and aim to both safeguard public participation and the principles of fairness, openess and consistency.

The Government is publishing a Circular to accompany the Rules, the Regulatory Impact Assessment and the Government response to the original consultation.

Further guidance will be available from the Planning Inspectorate website in due course.
