Common Land Policy Statement
The Government published the Common Land Policy Statement on 23 July 2002. The Policy Statement contains a comprehensive package of proposals relating to the registration and protection of common land, town and village greens, most of which will be given effect by the Commons Bill. This page contains the Policy Statement, and the consultation paper (issued in February 2000) which preceded it.
The Policy Statement also announced that a Stakeholder Working Group would be set up to make recommendations for improving the agricultural management of common land.
Following the recommendations of the Working Group, the Government launched a consultation on proposals for the agricultural management of common land between 22 August 2003 and 14 November 2003.
