Countryside Survey 2000: Accounting for Nature - Assessing Habitats in the UK Countryside (Main Report)
Countryside Survey 2000 (CS2000) and the Northern Ireland Countryside Survey 2000 (NICS2000) have been designed to provide detailed information about the habitats and landscape features that are important elements of our countryside. They can tell us about the 'stock' of these resources, that is how much of them we have and where they are to be found, and they can give us an insight into their condition based on the variety and abundance of the plant species associated with them. Using information from previous surveys, we can also gain an understanding of how the stock and condition of these habitats and landscape features are changing over time. We can build up a sort of balance sheet or an account of natural assets in the UK countryside.
In this report (written by members of the NERC Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, edited by Dr. Roy Haines-Young and published in November 2000. Countryside Survey 2000 - Accounting for Nature: assessing habitats in the UK countryside. Haines-Young, R. DETR, 2000. ISBN 1 85112 460 8; £25. Available from DEFRA Publications, Admail 6000, London SW1A 2XX.) we look in particular at the period between the last two surveys, 1990 and 1998.
The Countryside Survey 2000 involved a partnership of several Government Departments, Agencies and Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) in the form of a jointly funded research programme.

Module 1: Survey of Broad Habitats and landscape features
Module 3 (part 1): Recording cereal field margins in Countryside Survey 2000
Module 4: Increasing upland representation in CS2000
Module 5: Bird populations and environmental change
Module 8: Classification of airborne CASI and LIDAR data selected CS2000 sample squares. (Airborne scanner applications)
