The catchment area for VLA Thirsk covers Yorkshire, parts of Cleveland and County Durham and also North Lincolnshire.
Farm livestock numbers are high with all species represented; dairy and beef cattle fattening units, upland and lowland sheep, goats, poultry (broilers, layers and turkeys) and intensive and outdoor pigs. The farms range from the traditional hill farms through to large livestock units combined with arable farms.
The Laboratory offers a full range of diagnostic services in farmed animals to veterinary practices within its area.

The catchment area for VLA Truro covers Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and provides diagnostic services to those veterinary practitioners serving the livestock industry.
Submissions from veterinary practitioners take the form of live animals or carcases for post mortem examination, or laboratory samples such as milk, blood faeces etc.
The agricultural livestock are made up predominantly of cattle and sheep but samples are also received from pigs and poultry. Truro also accepts carcases and samples from local zoological collections. Truro has a specialised interest in examination of marine mammal deaths in conjunction with the Institute of Zoology.

The catchment area for VLA Winchester is very large, consisting of the whole of South East England including Hampshire, East and West Sussex, Kent, Berkshire, Surrey, the outer London boroughs and also parts of Dorset, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
The diverse farming practices within the South East result in the submission of samples from a wide variety of farmed and exotic animal species.
Winchester offers a full range of consultative diagnostic services in farmed animals to veterinary practices within its area.
