BrowseAloud Logo

Browsealoud is an accessibility feature which reads aloud our web pages and documents. We have made this service available to help people access our website who have:

  • low literacy skills or dyslexia,
  • mild visual impairments,
  • or do not speak English as their first language.

Downloading Browsealoud

The service can be accessed by downloading the free plug-in from the Browsealoud website. After downloading the plug-in, run the software and a control bar will appear. A Browsealoud icon will be placed in your system tray which is at the bottom right of your browser. You can either use the controls to listen to the site or simply hover over the content that you wish to read by using your mouse.

Other features

  • There is an option to see the words which are being spoken in large letters at the top of the screen.
  • It is possible to create an mp3 sound file of a web page or document which can be listened to away from your computer using other medias such as an ipod. Please note that these files are subject to Crown copyright.
  • You can choose from a range of voice styles and colours.
