VLA now has two modified RT-PCR tests, which detect bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD) in 'bulk' milk and 'pooled' blood samples from cattle herds.
These 'new' testing protocols offer a cost effective way of screening groups of cattle for viraemic animals. 'Pools' giving positive results will require additional testing of individual samples.
The tests are also able to distinguish between different virus types - BVDV1 and BVDV2.
