Bovine tuberculosis (TB) is a zoonotic disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium bovis (M.bovis).
It predominantly affects cattle causing lesions and death.
The transmission of bovine tuberculosis from cattle to man was reduced in the 1930s after the introduction of pasteurisation of milk. However, human TB, caused by M. tuberculosis rather than M. bovis, is still a major health problem in many developing countries.
