VLA provides a wide range of applied research and consultancy, diagnosis and surveillance on farm animal diseases to the Government, livestock health industry and private sector.
We are a national and international reference laboratory for a wide range of farm animal diseases, and have close links with research institutes and universities worldwide.

Former VLA colleagues receive Queen's Birthday Honours
Professor Steve Edwards, former Chief Executive, has been awarded a CBE. Professor Diane Newell, former Senior Scientific Consultant, has been awarded an OBE.
Steve has also received the 2009 Gold Award (pdf 20kb) from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) for his contribution to veterinary science and animal disease control.
VLA Disease Alert: Psoroptic mange in cattle
VLA has recently diagnosed psoroptic mange, caused by Psoroptes sp. mites in cattle in Great Britain. See our information for veterinary surgeons and farmers.
Preliminary results on pig H1N1 studies
VLA has published preliminary results on pig infection studies with influenza A (H1N1) associated with global epidemic in humans.
VLA has launched a H1N1 disinfectant efficacy testing service.
VLA International Conference - Animal Diseases 2009
