VLA provides a wide range of applied research and consultancy, diagnosis and surveillance on farm animal diseases to the Government, livestock health industry and private sector.
We are a national and international reference laboratory for a wide range of farm animal diseases, and have close links with research institutes and universities worldwide.

VLA's sustainable building achieves BREEAM award VLA has won a BREEAM Industry award for its new stores building at VLA Weybridge. The Building Research Establishment award recognises sustainable new building projects.
Zoonoses Report United Kingdom 2008 VLA has contributed to the Zoonoses Report UK 2008 published by Defra. The report describes the incidence of zoonoses (diseases which are transmissible between animals and humans) in 2008.

VLA is one of the many UK universities and institutes involved in new research projects to tackle livestock diseases in developing countries. The aim is to improve their food security and build scientific capability.
MSc in Global Health: Pathogens and Policy (GHP2) Along with other collaborating institutions, VLA has launched a new masters programme on global health. This course will draw extensively upon the research activities and expertise of VLA staff.

This new testing and consultancy service provides a structured and cost-effective programme to support herd health planning on the farm.
