Stockwatch

An image of stockwatch in actionOne of the best ways to learn how to integrate sustainable development into policymaking is to try it. This game allows you to practise how to think sustainably in a simulated situation, using the example of fisheries.

The scene: you’re a policymaker charged with maintaining the economic, social and environmental health of the small (and fictional) fishing village of Wibblesea. The decisions you make will affect:

  • fish landed – an indicator of the economic health of the region
  • fish stocks – an indicator of the environmental health of the surrounding marine area
  • jobs – an indicator of the social health of the region

Please note that this is not a decision-making tool, but a simulation that allows you to explore the type of stakeholder reaction that might follow decisions regarding fisheries. The game does not accurately predict what will happen if these decisions are taken in reality.
