External Power Supplies

External Power Supplies

Purchase of energy efficient external power supplies for devices, including small portable devices, to reduce the amount of energy consumed throughout the life cycle

2008 MINIMUM Mandatory Specification(s)

Must meet the EU Code of Conduct on Energy Efficiency of External Power Supplies Version 2.

1.  No-load power consumption refers to the situation when the power supply is plugged into a socket but the device is not attached to it (page 1).

(see page 4)

Rated power output

No-load power consumption

≥ 0.3 W and < 15 W

0.30W

≥ 15 W and < 50 W

0.30W

≥ 50 W and < 60 W

0.30W

≥ 60 W and < 150 W

0.50W

2.  Active Mode refers to where the device is attached and is being used or charged up and relates to the efficiency of supplying power to the device.

(See page 5)

Nameplate Output Power (Pno)

Minimum Average Efficiency in Active Mode (expressed as a decimal)

0 to ≤ 1 watt

≥ 0.49 *  Pno

> 1 to ≤ 49 watts

≥ [0.09 * Ln (Pno)] 0.49

> 49 watts

≥ 0.84

If Energy Star criteria (see page 2) is met for Active Mode, this also meets the EU Code of Conduct

2008 BEST PRACTICE Specification(s)

Complies with the EU Code of Conduct on Energy Efficiency of External Power Supplies Version 3 (valid from 01.01.2009)

From 2009 these will be the Energy-Using Product (EuP) Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPs) and thus mandatory.
