- Manufacturing accounts for roughly 13 per cent of UK Gross Value Added (monetary output), employs about 10 per cent of UK workers and is responsible for 27 per cent of UK carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
- Manufacturing GVA rose by 8 per cent between 1990 and 2007. Despite reductions in emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) by 20 per cent, nitrogen oxides (NOx) by 38 per cent, particulates (PM10) by 47 per cent and sulphur dioxide (SO2) by 67 per cent, were made over the same period.
