Urban population exposure to particulate matter

  • In 2005 urban exposure to ozone in the UK was 1,250 micrograms per cubic metre, the lowest of the eight compared countries and down from 1,413 in 1999. In Italy, where exposure was highest, it was over 6 times higher.
  • In 2005 exposure to particulate matter in the UK was 23.6 micrograms per cubic metre, similar to the 2002 level. The UK level was the fourth lowest of the seven compared countries after Sweden, France and Denmark in 2005.
