UK and selected countries
- Between 1990 and 2005 fatalities from road accidents have decreased in all 13 selected countries.
- The largest decrease between 1990 and 2005 was for France, where fatalities decreased by 56 per cent, compared with a decrease of 43 per cent in the UK.
- Between 1999 and 2005, the largest decrease (39 per cent) was also in France, while fatalities in the UK decreased by 11 per cent.
- In 2005 there were 55 road fatalities per million population in the UK, the fourth lowest of the selected countries. The least road fatalities per million population were in Netherlands (46) and the most in the United States (147).
