Data are for all age groups;
WHO standard populations are used to standardise the death rates
- In 2002 the death rates from cancer and cardio-vascular disease in the UK were the fourth highest of 13 selected countries, at 143 and 181 deaths per 100,000 population respectively. In Demark, rates for both were higher than in the UK, while in Japan death rates for both were lower than the UK and amongst the lowest of all compared countries.
- Deaths from suicide in the UK were the second lowest of 11 selected countries in 2000. Per 100,000 population there were 7 suicides, less than half that of Belgium and France.
