  • Between 1990 and 2006 the contribution of renewables to total UK energy production changed little. There was also little or no change in 8 other countries. In 3 countries there was an increase and Norway was the only country in which there was a decrease during this period.
  • There was also little or no change in the contribution of renewables to UK energy production between 1999 and 2006. Of the 13 countries, only Denmark and Germany showed an increase during this period, increasing the contribution of renewables by 5.9 and 3.5 percentage points respectively.
  • In 2006  2.1 per cent of UK energy was generated by renewable means - lower than any of the selected countries. In the OECD as a whole, 6.5 per cent of energy was generated by renewable means in 2006 (not shown).
