  • Between 1991 and 2005 the percentage of persons aged 24-65 with tertiary (higher) level qualification increased in the selected countries. In the UK this increased by 13.3 percentage points. The largest increase (16.2 percentage points) was in Canada.
  • The proportion of UK persons aged 24-65 with tertiary level qualifications increased by 4.8 percentage points between 1999 and 2005. The largest increase during this period (7.5 percentage points) was in the Netherlands.
  • In 2005 29.6 per cent of persons ages 24-65 in the UK had attained tertiary level qualifications. This was the fifth lowest of the selected countries but higher than the OECD average of 26 per cent (not shown).
