Pensioner poverty
Data up to 2006-7 for pensioners living in relative low-income households in the UK are presented in the national indicator.
At risk of poverty rate for persons of 65 years and over, 1995, 1999 and 2006
UK and selected countries

- Between 1995 and 2006 the percentage of pensioners at risk of poverty in the UK decreased by 4 percentage points. There was also a decrease in pensioner poverty of 3 percentage points in France.
- Between 1999 and 2006 pensioner poverty increased in the UK and Italy. There was a decrease in France and little or no change in the other selected countries.
- In 2006 28 per cent of persons aged 65 and over were at risk of poverty in the UK, the highest of the 6 compared countries. In the Netherlands this figure was 6 per cent and the EU average (not shown) was 20 per cent.
