Child poverty
Data up to 2006-7 for children living in relative low-income households in the UK are presented in the national indicator. The data presented below do not reflect the latest position for the UK or the selected countries, but are the latest international data available.
Percentage of children below the poverty threshold, 1995 and 2000
UK and selected countries

- There was little change in the percentage of UK children living below the poverty threshold of between 1995 and 2000 - a slight reduction of 1.2 per cent. Of the other compared countries the largest change was in Italy where the proportion fell from 18.6 to 15.7 per cent.
- In 2000 the UK childhood poverty rate of 16.2 per cent was the second highest (after the United States of America) of the 12 selected countries.
