- Between 1970 and 2005 the populations of all compared countries have increased. The largest increase has been in Australia where the population has increased by 60 per cent. Since 1970 the UK population has increased by 7.5 per cent, and by 4.5 per cent since 1990.
- In 2005 the UK population was 59.9 million. Of the compared countries the most populous was the United Sates with a population of 296.4 million.
- In 2005 the ratio of persons aged over 65 to working age persons in the UK was 29.5 per cent. The USA had the lowest ratio at 20.9 per cent, while the country with the highest ratio of persons over 65 to working age person was Italy at 44.3 per cent.
