  • Between 1991 and 2005 UK CO2 emissions per capita from fossil fuel burning decreased by 9 per cent, the second largest decrease (after Denmark) of the 13 selected countries. Germany also saw a decline while there were increased emissions in nine countries, including Italy, Japan and Australia.  There was little or no change in the emissions of France.
  • Between 1999 and 2005, there was little or no change in the CO2 emissions per capita in the UK, and four of the selected countries including France and US.    During this period emissions declined in two of the selected countries and increased in six. 
  • In 2005 the UK's CO2 emissions per capita of 2.60 tonnes were the 5th lowest of the 13 selected countries. The lowest emissions were of Sweden (1.78 tonnes per person) while Australia emitted the greatest amount (5.52 tonnes per person).
