Delivering sustainable development at European level
Sustainable development is a fundamental objective of the European Union (EU), that requires dealing with the EU's economic, social and environmental policies in a mutually reinforcing way. The EU Sustainable Development Strategy provides a policy framework to deliver sustainable development.
The EU also delivers many policies that contribute to sustainable development, for example the Renewable Energy Directive. The UK representatives work to show leadership in the EU and work with other Member States for better policies for sustainable development across environmental, social and economic priorities.
