Ltd - 4 April 2003 - UK Country Report on Animal Genetic Resources - This
has been updated, and now available here
The official UK Country Report on Animal Genetic Resources (AnGR) as submitted to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) to form part of the "First Report on the State of the World's Animal Genetic Resources". It was drafted by a working group from a 24 member National Consultative Committee made up from all parts of the farm animal breeding and conservation sectors under the chairmanship of Professor W.G. Hill of the University of Edinburgh . The Report is a comprehensive review of the utilisation and conservation of AnGR in the UK with recommendations for a future strategy.

- 21 August 2003 - The 2003-2004 Environmental Protection research newsletter is published.
- Defra has a significant portfolio (worth £3.0 million in 2002/03)
of arable crop improvement and disease management research. We are now
exploring managing our investment in crop genetic improvement by funding
strategic outcome orientated projects within 'Centres for crop improvement'.
We hope to progress implementation of this from August by placing specific
projects out to tender with a view to projects starting from January

- 8 November 2005 - Microbiological Safety of Food Funders Group (MSFFG) Database - The MSFFG is a cross-representational body involving bodies who fund microbiological research in the area of food safety. The group regularly updates a database ( http://www.msffg.org.uk/) of all currently funded UK research in this area. More information on the MSFFG's activities can be found on the Food Standards Agency website http://www.food.gov.uk/.

Pesticide safety & use (PSU)
- A book "Reducing Agrochemical Use on the Arable Farm: the TALISMAN and SCARAB Projects" has been published by ADAS. It gives an in-depth account of the results and conclusions of the TALISMAN and SCARAB projects, which have provided an insight into the economic, agronomic and ecological consequences of reducing agrochemical inputs in arable crops.
