Defra Science Advisory Council

To provide independent scientific advice to Defra's Chief Scientific Adviser and through him to Ministers

The Science Advisory Council (SAC) was established in February 2004 to provide Defra with expert, independent and published advice on science policy and strategy. The SAC communicates this advice to Prof. Bob Watson, the Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA), and through the CSA to Ministers.

SAC is served by an independent Secretary and a Defra based Secretariat.
