Science Databases
Defra contributes to research effort across the UK and world-wide. The following are links to a number of databases or other websites holding science information of relevance to Defra:
- Stockless Arable Organic Research - The Stockless Arable Organic Project at ADAS Terrington is funded by Defra (projects OF0318 and OF0322) in support of its policy objective of encouraging conversion to organic methods. The aim of the project is to assess the sustainability of arable organic production with particular focus on a stockless rotation on a fertile soil.
- CAB International is a global not-for-profit organisation specialising in sustainable solutions for agricultural and environmental problems. It also provides publishing services, including a book and reference work list, a primary and review journal programme and bibliographic databases.
- UK Research on the "Prion Diseases" - maintained by the Medical Research Council and providing details of current publicly funded research on Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies in the UK, including contributions from Defra, Department of Health, Food Standards Agency and BBSRC.
- Countryside Survey 2000 - The Countryside Survey 2000 was funded by Defra and NERC and a number of other organisations. It is a major audit of the British countryside, involving both detailed field observations and satellite imagery, which has provided a complete land cover census for Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
- UK Biodiversity Website - This site supports the implementation of the UK Biodiversity Action Plan and the partnerships involved in biodiversity conservation.
- Defra Arable Crops, Pesticide Safety and Non-Food Research Programmes Database - This site helps co-ordinate and develop UK Government policy on renewable raw materials for energy and industry and includes a wide range of information on current schemes and research programmes.
