Devolution

Devolution is the transferring of political decision-making from the centre to sub-national units. Following the Scotland Act 1998, the Government of Wales Act 1998 and the Northern Ireland Act 1998, certain executive and legislative powers were devolved from Westminster to the Scottish Parliament, the National Assembly for Wales and the Northern Ireland Executive respectively.
