Terms of Reference and Membership of the Radioactive Waste Management Advisory Committee

Terms of Reference

To advise the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and, in relation to devolved matters, to advise the Minister for Environment and Rural Development in Scotland and the Minister for the Environment in Wales, on the technical and environmental implications of major issues concerning the development and implementation of an overall policy for all aspects of the management of civil radioactive waste, including research and development: and on any such matters referred to it by these persons.

Membership

The Membership of RWMAC from 1 August 2000 to 31 July 2001 was:

  • Professor Charles Curtis OBE - Professor of Geochemistry and ex-Director of the Environment Centre, University of Manchester

  • Mr Fred Barker - Independent analyst specialising in research, advisory, and consultancy work on nuclear issues

 

  • Professor Andrew Blowers OBE - Professor of Social Science, The Open University

 

  • Professor Keith Boddy* CBE, OBE - Former Head of Regional Medical Physics Department, Newcastle General Hospital

 

  • Mr David Bonser - Director of British Nuclear Fuels plc

 

  • Dr Gregg Butler - Consultant specialising in nuclear fuel cycle and nuclear industry matters

 

  • Dr Martin Courtis OBE - Consultant specialising in radioactive waste management. Former Chief Environment, Engineering and Transportation Officer, Dudley MBC

 

  • Dr Wynne Davies - Vice President, Group Health, Safety and Environment, Amersham plc

 

  • Miss Frances Fry - Division Head, National Radiological Protection Board

 

  • Mrs Cathy Griffiths - Consultant Medical Physicist, Central Sheffield University Hospitals NHS Trust
