South Yorkshire

PRIORITY/MEASURE DESCRIPTION
2.9 Improving processing and marketing of agricultural products
  Support will be focused on aspects of the production, processing and marketing of agricultural products where competitiveness can be raised. Support will be available to research new markets, develop new innovative products, develop new supply chain relationships and the infrastructure to support such changes.

Support will be focused on the key agricultural sectors, beef, sheep, arable and horticulture, and on organic products.

Support will be available in all agricultural sectors to work collaboratively and to develop quality assurance, food safety and traceability mechanisms. These actions will reinforce access to new and existing markets through ensuring producers can compete on quality rather than price.
4.24 Promoting the adaption and development of rural areas
  To assist farms, related businesses and rural communities improve their viability with quality business and diversification support. Support may be available for certain aspects of: diversification of agricultural activities and activities close to agriculture; marketing of quality agricultural produce; encouragement of tourist and craft activities; setting up farm relief and countryside management services to improve efficiency of existing rural businesses; development of infrastructure connected with the developmne of agriculture; protection of the environment in connection with agriculture, forestry and landscape conservation and the improvement of animal welfare; redistribution and reparcelling of land to improve holding structure and efficiency; protection of agricultural production potential through appropriate prevention controls; basic services for the rural economy; renovation and development of villages; protection and conservation of the rural heritage.
4.25 Developing forestry resources
  Develop forestry resources in a sustainable manner, providing environmental and social benefits for local communities, to encourage investment and create new employment opportunities in forestry and related industries. Facilitate the establishment of new woodland, better management and investment to improve and rationalise the harvesting, processing and marketing of forestry products to include: afforestation of reclaimed land and public open spaces; creation of agricultural shelter belts; timber based supply chains; timber processing facilities; marketing initiatives and short rotation coppicing schemes.
4.26 Broadening the agricultural and forestry skill base
  Support for needs based vocational training activities for farmers and others involved in the agriculture and forestry sectors to improve their capacity and competence with particular priorities as regards: ICT skills; business/marketing skills (including entrepreneurship and innovation skills); customer care; traditional crafts; countryside and environment skills.

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly

PRIORITY/MEASURE DESCRIPTION
1.4 Processing and marketing of agricultural products
  Enhancement of businesses' competitiveness by continuing the development of processing/ marketing; provide new opportunities for growth; investment in plant/equipment, supported by the application of results from innovative market intelligence, IT support and market and consumer research; encouragement of good practice to meet quality assurance schemes, sourcing of agricultural raw materials derived from, among others, sustainable methods of production, development of new outlets and joint marketing initiatives; regional sourcing and branding; management of by-products.
4.3 Investment in agricultural holdings - Energy crops
  Support development of miscanthus as an energy cropp and for other uses on sustainable basis; feasibility studies; commercial establishement; harvesting and on-farm processing.
4.4 Training
  Facilitate re-structuring and sustainable, competitive development in agriculture and forestry; vocational training; diversification of businesses; conservation; maintenance and enhancement of the environment; hygiene; animal welfare; farm business management and planning; ICT skills; forest management; assistance for women in agriculture.
4.5 Forestry
  Create sustainable woodland management with environmental gains;economic returns from timber; support development of SRC (short rotation coppice) as an energy crop; rationalise harvesting, processing aand marketing of forestry products; promotion of new outlets; investment in tourism and recreation; establishment of networks to acheive strategic aims; planting of woodland and short rotation coppice on non-agricultural land.
4.6 Promoting the adaptation and development of rural areas
  This measure draws on support for activities relating to agriculture, diversification and the wider rural economy not provided for within the measures above; farm relief and management services; marketing of quality agricultural products; basic services for the rural economy and population, such as rural helplines and counselling services; diversification to provide multiple activities or alternative incomes; development of farm infrastructure; tourism and craft activities; protection of the environment and landscape conservation, including improvement of animal welfare.

Merseyside

PRIORITY/MEASURE DESCRIPTION
1.8 Adaptation and development of rural areas
  Aims to help secure the competitive position of the agricultural and the rural business sector in Merseyside through: agricultural diversification into environmentally sustainable activities; farm business relief and management services; marketing of quality agricultural products; services for the rural economy and population to address social needs; development of farm infrastructure; tourism and craft activities; protection of the environmrnt and landscape conservation.
1.9 Food processing and marketing
  Aims to enhance the region's businesses' competitiveness by continuing the development of processing/marketing through the: provision of new opportunities for growth; investment in plant/equipment, supported by the application of results from innovative market intelligence, through IT support and market and consumer research; encouragement of good quality practice to meet quality assurance schemes, sourcing of agricultural raw materials derived from, among others, sustainaaable methods of production, development of new outlets and joint marketing initiatives; aid for dairy, beef, sheep and horticulture, and organic production; regional sourcing and branding; management of by-products.
1.10 Forestry sector
  Aims to protect the sustainable development and management of the forestry sector in Merseyside (with an emphasis on community forestry) through: business support mechanisms; provision of alternative sources of income and employment; promotion of forestry products as new sources of raw materials for local businesses; support of initiatives to improve the economic, ecological and social value of forests in the region.
