1. Village Hall Loan Fund

This fund is administered by Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) on behalf of Defra. Loans are usually between £1,000 to £20,000. The interest rate set by Treasury is currently 8%. The Loan can be used for acquiring or renovating village halls.

  • Loan size: £1,000 - £20,000. Grants over £20,000 may be available subject to Defra's approval.

2. Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund

The Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF) was started to complement the Aggregates Levy in reducing the impacts of aggregates (sand, gravel and crushed rock) extraction. ALSF grants is distributed on behalf of Defra by Local authorities who are funding projects that compensate communities affected by aggregate quarrying. The grants available are £4.55m for 2005-06 and £4.55 for 2006-07. This could include village hall improvement projects. However the types of project and the communities targeted by each local authority is for the authority to decide.
