This Guidance is aimed at helping readers understand the European Community (EC) Directive 2006/66/EC on batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators (‘the Directive’), insofar as it relates to permitting the treating and/or recycling of batteries in England and Wales (i.e. Article and 12(2) of and Annex III to the Directive).

The Batteries and Accumulators (Placing on the Market) Regulations 2008 (SI 2008 No 2164) and the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009 (SI 2009 No 890) apply other provisions of the Directive.
