PVS: Transposition of Directive 2008/83/EC

This notice announces the administrative implementation in the UK of Commission Directive 2008/83/EC from 1 October 2008. This Directive amends Directives 2003/91EC which concerns the minimum characteristics to be measured and the minimum conditions for examining certain varieties of vegetable species.

In summary these Directives set out the requirements for testing the Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability (DUS) of certain vegetable. Procedures for testing certain species must comply with the conditions laid down in Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) protocols, and for certain other species, with the test guidelines of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV).  These are listed in the Directive.

All UK protocols for establishing DUS for species covered by this Directive, and tested in the UK, comply with CPVO or UPOV guidelines, as required.
