This notice announces the administrative implementation in the UK of Commission Directives 2003/90/EC and 2003/91/EC (as amended by Commission Directive 2006/127/EC on 7 December 2006).
These Directives implement Directives 2002/53/EC and 2002/55/EC which concern the characteristics and the minimum conditions for examining certain varieties of agricultural and vegetable species respectively.
The full text of the Directives can be found from the following links:-
In summary the new Directives set out the requirements for testing the Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability (DUS) of certain agricultural and vegetable species. Test procedures for testing certain species must comply with the conditions laid down in Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) protocols, and for certain other species, with the test guidelines of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV).
