The journey of Celia the Colorado beetle

(or how alien pests can get into the UK)

Follow her trip to England below, or Click here for more detailed information

Magnifying glass .....Many thousands of plant health inspections are done each year to help prevent pests and diseases.....

Celia - Colorado beetle'I'm fed up with mainland Europe - I fancy trying some tasty potato crop in the UK. Maybe even some glasshouse tomatoes, aubergine and pepper......all those lovely plants !'

'It's cool to hitch a ride in a lorry of fresh parsley, even though this crop isn't my cup of tea'
Lorry
'A brief hop across the Channel - lorry in ferry'   Ferry
Border
'Beyond the restricted port area lies England's green and pleasant land'

'They are unloading the lorry.......this could be a chance to escape. Look at those interesting fields over there !'Unloading
Potato crop'What a lovely potato crop ! Did you know it's the foliage, rather than the spud that excites me ? I am very hungry'

Before leaving for rainy England Celia was already fertilised - this means that a breeding colony could be established, with serious problems for our plants
