Progress Report of the Survey of EC-Sourced Phytophthora Hosts at Docks
To date there have been 1048 inspections carried out at ports for Phytophthora ramorum - susceptible material from EC member states since the survey began in February. The survey is an important part of the official plant protection measures being taken to help further limit the introduction and spread of this quarantine disease in the UK (please click here to view earlier news item)
Of all material checked so far about 30 - 40% of consignments have included susceptible hosts of P. ramorum. The majority of vehicle drivers have been very clued up on the purpose of the survey. The Inspectorate is pleased to report that required documentation has generally been in order. However steps are, and will continue to be taken if this is not the case. One consignment has been destroyed under statutory notice following failure to produce correct documentation. There have to date been no confirmed findings of the disease on any material inspected as part of the survey.
For guidance on the correct documentation requirements please refer to
the information on plant passporting requirements.
A plant health information leaflet is
available which gives details of the symptoms of the disease, how it develops
and spreads and what action should be taken if the presence of the disease
is suspected. Other useful information and images can also be viewed on
the Phytophthora ramorum webpages
on this site.
