Notice of Demarcated Zones for the Control of Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi et al.

THE PLANT HEALTH (GREAT BRITAIN) ORDER 1993

NOTICE OF DEMARCATED ZONES FOR THE CONTROL OF RALSTONIA SOLANACEARUM (SMITH) YABUUCHI ET AL.

The presence of Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi et al., the bacterium which causes potato brown rot, has been confirmed in samples taken pursuant to articles 2 and 5 of Directive 98/57/EC of 20 July 1998 on the control of potato brown rot.

I, Brian Ellam, being an inspector authorised by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food for the purposes of the Plant Health (Great Britain) Order 1993 as amended ("the Order") give notice that I have demarcated each of the following zones for the purposes of article 23A of the Order (article 23A was inserted by the Plant Health (Amendment) (England) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/2126)):

All premises subject to notices under article 22 of the Order which have been served for the purposes of controlling potato brown rot.

  • Pix Brook, Bedfordshire - entire length

  • River Great Ouse, Cambridgeshire - from Houghton Mill (grid reference TL282720) to Earith (grid reference TL389748)

  • River Nene, Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire - from Lilford Bridge (grid reference TL027838) to the Dog in a Doublet sluice (grid reference TL272993)

  • Willow Brook, Northamptonshire - entire length

  • Pig Water, Cambridgeshire - entire length

  • River Thames, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Greater London - from Castle Eaton (grid reference SU145958) to the Thames barrier (grid reference TQ415795)

  • Great Brook, Oxfordshire - entire length

  • Colne Brook, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Surrey and Greater London - entire length

  • River Colne, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Greater London and Surrey - entire length

  • River Lea (or Lee), Hertfordshire and Greater London - entire length

  • River Loddon, Berkshire - from the A327 road bridge between Shinfield and Arborfield (grid reference SU743678) to its confluence with the River Thames

  • Wraysbury River, Berkshire, Surrey and Greater London - entire length

  • Hogwell Sewer, Kent - entire length

With effect from 27 July 2000, the provisions of paragraph 11 of Schedule 13A of the Order (also inserted by S.I. 1999/2126) shall apply as appropriate in the above demarcated zones for the purpose of controlling the spread of potato brown rot. The areas of surface water which have been designated as contaminated and to which the prohibition on irrigation and spraying of potato and tomato crops in the said paragraph 11 shall apply are the same as those demarcated above.

The notice of demarcated zones for the control of Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchi et al. dated 29 June 2000 is withdrawn with effect from 27 July 2000.
