Have you heard about Muck In4Life?

MuckIn4Life logoPeople of all ages are heading for the great outdoors this summer, volunteering to help conserve wildlife, landscapes, parks, gardens and other green spaces in a new Defra led campaign – ‘Muck In4Life’.

This summer, with the weather looking good and the kids wanting to be outdoors, is a great time to volunteer with a local environment charity.  It means you could be doing anything, from building a bird box, clearing out pond weed, picking up litter, counting bats or birds or even building a dry stone wall.

Environment Minister Huw Irranca-Davies said: “Get out and about and volunteer for conservation this summer.  It will not only help the place you live in thrive and be better looked after, but it will give you great memories and loads of exercise without setting foot in a gym.”

A fantastic Muck In4Life stand will be at four major events over the summer, where kids can make their own bird feeders and meet charities who would love you to come and volunteer with them.  The stand will be at:

18 – 19 July

Holkham Country Fair, Norfolk

28 – 30 July

New Forest and Hampshire Show, Brockenhurst

06 – 09 August

Bristol Balloon Fiesta, Bristol

04 – 06 September

Chatsworth Country Fair

You can also have fun with the Muck In4Life van, which will be visiting theme parks, activity centres, animal parks and city centres over the next couple of months. However you take part, don't forget to capture your experiences with your camera then check out the Conservation Volunteering Photographer of the Year Competition.
