Responsibilities and costs for the livestock industry
Proposals for how the livestock industry can have a greater say in decisions on animal disease control and prevention will come under the spotlight at a national seminar today.
The event, organised by Defra, will also focus on how the industry can make a greater contribution to some of the costs associated with animal diseases.
Minister for Farming, Lord Rooker, will speak at the seminar, which brings together people from organisations with an interest in the livestock industry and animal health and welfare.
Animal health and disease control are central to a successful industry, to protecting public health, wildlife and the wider environment.
The seminar marks the start of a series of regional workshops, which will give farmers and others with an interest the opportunity to have their say in how cost sharing and shared decision making can work in practice.
Anyone with an interest is encouraged to take part in a workshop in their area.
