Wildlife Management Strategy consultation
A consultation on the first phase in the development of a Wildlife Management Strategy for England has been published today.
Wildlife management involves managing the impacts, both positive and negative, of wildlife on human activities as well as the impacts of human activities on wildlife.
The consultation seeks views on the principles underpinning the strategy and a proposed new framework for making wildlife management decisions. It aims to establish the best way in which a strategy will make sure:
- that wildlife policy takes into account the Government’s vision of the environment as a whole;
- that policies are developed in a consistent way that makes best use of available evidence;
- a transparent approach to policy development is in place so that stakeholders and the public can understand why policy decisions have been made;
- that wildlife management policies deliver effective solutions.
The strategy will apply to the development of all new wildlife policy, helping Defra fulfil the Government’s vision to secure a diverse, healthy and resilient natural environment, which provides the basis for everyone’s well-being, health and prosperity now and in the future.
The consultation closes on 22 September.
