Foot and Mouth Disease: Surveillance Zone lifted

On 5 November the Foot and Mouth Disease Surveillance Zone was lifted and became part of the wider Restricted Zone.
Extensive surveillance has been completed in the Surveillance Zone and no further cases of Foot and Mouth Disease have been discovered.
The current Restricted Zone, and movement restrictions that apply in this zone, remain in place.
Defra has confirmed that the EU Commission and Member States have agreed a new decision which will allow the relaxation of current Foot and Mouth Disease export restrictions on meat and meat products.
Farmers must remain vigilant and continue to check their animals for signs of disease twice daily.
