Positive bi-lateral between UK and Scottish executive minister
News release
Ref: 240/09
Date: 20 October 2009
UK Fisheries Minister Huw Irranca-Davies met the Scottish Executive Minister for discussion on the future of the UK and Scottish fisherman.
On the table for discussion were the Cod Recovery Plan agreed at last year’s Fisheries Council, CFP reform and discards, amongst other matters.
“Engagement with Minister from Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales on matters affecting our fishing fleet is vital to ensure that the UK has one voice in the European Union.
“Our close working relationship and willingness to craft agreed UK priorities is as important for the Autumn quota negotiations as it is for longer term reform of the Common Fisheries Policy.”
Mr Irranca-Davies will be meeting colleagues from Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales regularly over the coming weeks on shared issues, he added.
“In all these discussions we will work closely with fisherman and the fishing industry throughout the UK to make sure we get the best result for a sustainable future together.”
