New members wanted for National Park Authorities, Broads Authority and Chilterns Conservation Board

Environment Secretary Hilary Benn has announced his intention to appoint new members to five National Park Authorities (NPAs) including the proposed new South Downs NPA, and to the Broads Authority and Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Conservation Board.
There are up to ten vacancies in the South Downs and one in each of Exmoor, the Lake District, the North Yorkshire Moors and the Peak District. The Broads Authority and Chilterns AONB have one vacancy each.
The Secretary of State appoints members to reflect the national importance placed on these bodies, with responsibility for conservation, recreation, planning, access, land management and resources as well as reflecting both local and national interests.
The appointments commence in April 2010 and are initially for up to four years on NPAs and the Broads Authority and three years on AONB Conservation Boards, with the option of reappointment for a period of up to ten years.
Applications are particularly encouraged from members of ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, women and young people.
