Appointments to Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish) Board

Two new members have been appointed to the board of Seafish (Sea Fish Industry Authority), a Government sponsored Non-Departmental Public Body, which works across all sectors of the UK seafood industry. Seafish conducts research and projects aimed at raising standards, encouraging the consumption of seafood, improving efficiency and ensuring the economic viability of the industry.
Quentin Clarke will represent the UK retail sector and James Wilson the UK shellfish sector for three years from 14 April.
Four re-appointments have also been made. John Whitehead has been reappointed for a third term as Deputy Chair, his appointment will expire on 13 April 2012. Ole Norgaard and Michael Parker will represent the UK processing sector, and Alex West the catching sector in Scotland, for second terms until 31 March 2012.
Members are paid £9,593 a year for 1 1/2 days work a month. The deputy chair receives £21,033 for 2-3 days work per month.
A recruitment process is currently underway to find a member to represent the Northern Ireland fisheries sector.
These appointments and re-appointments have been made in accordance with guidance issued by the Office for the Commissioner for Public Appointments (OCPA).
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees political activity (if any declared) to be made public. No such declaration has been made for any of these appointments.
