Veterinary Committees appoint new members

Minister for Farming and the Environment, Jane Kennedy, today announced new appointments to the Veterinary Residues Committee (VRC) and the Veterinary Products Committee (VPC).

Mark Ranson has been appointed to the VRC to provide advice on the food retail sector. Mr Ranson works for Marks & Spencer as a Senior Food Technologist and Agriculture Manager, and has specific responsibility for poultry and pigs. He has declared no political interests.

Robert Keith Siddorn, a working farmer, has been appointed to the VPC.  Mr Siddorn runs a traditional mixed farm of some 200 acres on the edge of the Cheshire plain. He has declared no political interests.

The VRC is the independent committee that provides advice to the Veterinary Medicines Directorate and Food Standards Agency on the formulation of the veterinary medicine residues surveillance programmes and on the significance of the results in terms of consumer safety surveillance. 

The VPC is the independent committee established in 1970 to advise Ministers on the safety, quality, and efficacy of veterinary medicines, and to promote the collection of information and investigation relating to suspected adverse reactions to such products.

Both appointments were made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
