Appointments to SEAC announced

Four new members have been appointed to the Spongiform Encephalopathy Advisory Committee (SEAC). 

The new members are: Professor John Collinge, Dr Azra Ghani, Dr Richard Knight and Dr Roland Salmon.

SEAC provides independent expert advice on all issues relating to Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs) including Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) and Creutzfeldt-Jakob's Disease (CJD).

Notes to editors

1. These appointments have been made in accordance with the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments (OCPA) code of practice.

2. Appointments to SEAC are made jointly by Ministers from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Department for Health, the Chair of the Food Standards Agency and Ministers from the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

3. SEAC members are unpaid however they may claim an attendance fee of £133 per day together with associated travel and subsistence costs.
