Working with others: Regional Advisory Councils
Regional Advisory Councils (RACs)
(261 KB) are a key element of the reformed Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). They aim to increase the participation of those affected by the CFP and to achieve more regionally focused fisheries management. The RACs are led by stakeholders and include fishermen and other interest groups from EU Member States.
Defra and the other UK Fisheries Administrations are actively supporting the RACs that cover UK interests to help to establish them as influential bodies putting forward advice and recommendations to the European Commission and the Council of Ministers.
Four RACs covering UK interests are up and running: the North Sea RAC, the North Western Waters RAC, the Pelagic RAC and the Long Distance RAC.
