UK Fisheries Administrations

The UK Fisheries Departments are the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra), the Scottish Executive Environment & Rural Affairs Department (SEERAD), the Department for Environment, Planning & Countryside of the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG), and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development for Northern Ireland (DARD). Departments in the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey are responsible for administering fishing activity in their respective areas.

The development of policy and control measures for UK fisheries involves a close working relationship between all Fisheries Administrations. You can read more about the work of the other Fisheries Administrations at:

Research Centres

We work closely with the scientists who provide stock assessmentstock assessment, environmental assessments, and undertake research projects for the fishing industry. There are three main research laboratories in the UK:
