Tackling the current difficulties in the English Under 10m Fishing Sector
Defra has issued a consultation paper inviting views by 3 October 2008 on the detail of proposed measures for tackling the current difficulties in the English Under 10 metre fleet. We wrote to all licence-holders [PDF] (157 KB) in April 2008 summarising the response to the earlier discussion paper [PDF] (70 KB).

- Annual quotas
The primary aim of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) is to ensure rational and sustainable exploitation of fish stocks through conservation and management policies. Fish quotas are set to help achieve these objectives. - Fixed quota allocations
Fixed Quota Allocations (FQAs) as a means of allocating quotas formally came into operation in January 1999. This page has information on how FQAs are used to allocate quota. - Producer Organisations
Producer Organisations (POs) are established under the CFP to help groups of fishermen to market the fish they catch - Economic link licence condition

The UK Quota Management Change Programme was set up by UK Fisheries Administrations in 2005 to deliver improvement in the UK's quota management system.
