EU Veterinary Week 10-15 November 2008

The purpose of the EU Veterinary week is to raise awareness levels across the UK Veterinary Profession in relation to these promotional campaigns and to support further dissemination of information planned for farming events and at border control points.

The programme is supported by Defra related promotional materials on biosecurity – ‘Give Disease the Boot’ campaign and existing Imports campaign information. The EU commission ONE HEALTH combined messages are targeted to the general public and farming sector.

Proposed joint National Promotional Events up to and during EU veterinary Week with GVS representation are;

  • 19-20 September – Final Year Veterinary Student Conference LANCASTER – GVS Promotion stand
  • 26-27 September – BVA Congress LONDON – GVS Promotion stand and presentation by CVO
  • 9 October – GVS-University Veterinary Schools meeting Liverpool University
  • 8 November – Veterinary Public Health Association GLOUCESTER – Presentation by Megan Power 
  • 10 November – One Health meeting BRUSSELS – CVO and other UK reps to attend
  • 10 November – British Cattle Veterinary Association meeting KILLARNEY – GVS Promotional Stand

£750 Student Travel Award – Student Essay Competition

As part of the activities planned for the EU veterinary week in the UK, Defra with the support of the UK Veterinary schools and the Veterinary public health Association are launching a student essay competition. The winner/s will receive a travel award to attend a conference or undertake a period of planned study in the EU IN 2009.
